Our next stop was Yangzhou(揚州), known as a city of gardens and alleys. Little known to most foreign travelers, Yangzhou is a proud retainer of ancient Chinese architecture, art, culture, traditional gardens and parks (including the Slender West Lake and Grand Canal), cuisine, and commerce in a beautiful mixture of modernity with its rich 2,500 year history. The demolition sledgehammer has not made much headway here, leaving an increasingly hard-to-find view into the past. Yangzhou is the ideal place to experience unique aspects of Chinese culture, and it is also one of the origin place of the well-known Huaiyang Cooking(淮揚菜系) in Chinese Cuisine.
In the morning, we enjoyed a bountiful breakfast buffet at the Howard Johnson Suites Hotel.

The key figure for our trip was the Manager from Huai-An City Overseas Affairs Office - Mr. Liu - who would travel with our group all the way till the end. He was my counter-part in China for planning and arranging every detail for this trip. I've worked with him since year 2000 on several trips to China and found him to be extremely reliable and pleasant to work with. He always tried his best to meet our demands and made our trip all the more enjoyable.

After riding on the bus for over 3 hours, we arrived to enjoy one of the MOST MEMORABLE LUNCHES at the Fu-Man-Lo restaurant in Yangzhou (揚州‧福滿樓餐館).
